Jared returned three weeks later.
Not with anger.
Not with threats.
With an apology.
That was what made Khloe suspicious.
He waited outside the company building.
“Khloe.”
She stopped.
But she did not move closer.
“What do you want?”
Jared looked tired.
“I made mistakes.”
She almost laughed.
Almost.
“That's what you always say.”
“I changed.”
“No.”
His face fell.
“You don’t believe me?”
Khloe looked at him.
“No.”
For two years, she had waited for those words to become true.
Now they meant nothing.
Jared stepped closer.
“I loved you.”
Khloe shook her head.
“You loved having control over me.”
His expression hardened.
There it was.
The real Jared.
Only for a second.
But enough.
Alexander’s security team appeared behind her.
Jared looked surprised.
Then angry.
“You chose him?”
Khloe answered calmly.
“No.”
She looked at herself.
“I chose me.”
That was the moment everything changed.
