Chapter 5 - Patrick Callahan's Last Song

Nora found the records two days later.
Not in a safe.
Not behind a wall.
Inside her father's piano.
Patrick Callahan had hidden a flash drive beneath the keyboard.
It contained evidence that Martin had embezzled millions from several companies—including Moretti Capital.
But there was something else.
Emails.
Martin had deliberately pushed Patrick’s business toward bankruptcy after Patrick discovered the theft.
He had sabotaged loans.
Bribed an inspector.
Manipulated Callahan House's debts.
Nora sat alone on the stage reading everything.
Then the lights went out.
“Nora?”
Maeve's voice came from upstairs.
Nora stood.
“Maeve?”
Glass shattered near the front entrance.
Nora grabbed her phone.
Before she could call anyone, headlights swept across the windows.
Black vehicles stopped outside.
Doors opened.
Gabriel entered first.
He crossed the room immediately.
“Nora.”
“How did you—”
“Your security alarm.”
“I fired your security.”
“You attempted to.”
Despite everything, relief nearly buckled her knees.
Gabriel saw the flash drive.
“You found it.”
Nora nodded.
“I found everything.”
Police sirens approached in the distance.
Gabriel looked surprised.
Nora held up her phone.
“I called them.”
Gabriel stared at her.
“What?”
“I’m solving this legally.”
“That seems unnecessarily complicated.”
“Welcome to marriage.”
For the first time in days, Gabriel smiled.
A real smile.
Small.
Rare.
Dangerous.
May you like
Beautiful.
And Nora hated how much she had missed it.
