Chapter 6 - The Truth About Dominic Russo

Months passed.

Brandon faced the consequences of his actions.

The evidence Harper had saved over the years finally mattered.

The messages.

The threats.

The financial records.

The witnesses.

His control disappeared.

Harper returned fully to nursing.

She stopped checking behind her every time she entered a room.

She stopped apologizing for existing.

And Dominic...

Dominic remained next door.

One evening, Harper found him standing outside his apartment.

"You know, most neighbors don't scare everyone in the building."

Dominic looked at her.

"Most neighbors don't have your enemies."

She smiled.

"Fair point."

A quiet moment passed.

Then Harper asked:

"Why did you never tell me everything about yourself?"

Dominic looked down.

"Because people usually leave when they know."

"Do you think I would?"

"I didn't know."

Harper stepped closer.

"You saved my life."

"No."

He shook his head.

"You saved your own."

She smiled.

"You really hate taking credit."

"I have enough problems."

She laughed.

And Dominic realized something.

He hadn't heard that sound in his life enough.
