Chapter 5 - The Choice That Changed Dominic Hail
Adrian escaped before security could stop him.
But Dominic was not chasing him.
Not yet.
Because Lily had found something.
A photograph.
She pulled it from her pocket.
“My mommy told me to keep this safe.”
Dominic looked at it.
The photo showed Claire standing beside Dominic years earlier.
But that was impossible.
Because Dominic remembered that day.
He remembered pushing Claire away.
He remembered accusing her.
He remembered believing the worst.
On the back of the photo was a message.
He never knew the truth. Protect him anyway.
Dominic stared.
For the first time in years, regret appeared.
Not weakness.
Regret.
Lily looked at him.
“Are you mad at my mommy?”
Dominic looked at the child.
“No.”
“Then why do you look sad?”
Because no enemy had ever hurt him like his own mistake.
Because Claire had protected him while he hated her.
Because a little girl had crossed the city barefoot because she believed he could save her mother.
