Chapter 7 - The Little Girl Who Saved His Life

Six months later, Ravenport saw something nobody expected.

Dominic Hail changed.

Not completely.

He was still powerful.

Still respected.

Still feared by those who deserved fear.

But people noticed something different.

There was warmth in his home.

Laughter.

A small pair of shoes near the entrance.

A child’s drawings on his office wall.

Lily Carter had become the one person in the world who could walk into Dominic’s office without knocking.

One evening, she sat beside him.

“Do you still think I was scary that day?”

Dominic smiled slightly.

“No.”

“But everyone was scared of me.”

“You were brave.”

She looked at him.

“I saved you.”

“Yes.”

“How?”

Dominic looked at the little girl who had run through the fog.

“You reminded me that even people who look weak can change everything.”

A woman appeared at the doorway.

Claire.

Healthy.

Safe.

She smiled.

“Dinner is ready.”

Dominic looked at her.

For years, he had believed power meant never needing anyone.

Now he understood something different.

Power was having people worth protecting.

Lily grabbed his hand.

“Come on.”

Dominic stood.

The most feared man in Ravenport followed a little girl into the dining room.

And for the first time in many years—
