The final evidence came from somewhere nobody expected.

Not the accountants.
Not investigators.
Not executives.
A temporary worker.
She found it in an old archived email.
A message from three years earlier.
Adrian had requested access to a reporting system he should never have been able to enter.
Lark printed the email.
Raymond read it.
His expression changed.
"Why didn't anyone see this?"
"Because nobody was looking."
He looked at her.
"You were."
She nodded.
Raymond sat quietly.
For years, people had tried to impress him.
Lark had simply done the work.

Raymond called Adrian.
No security.

Adrian entered.
He looked relaxed.

"You found it."
Raymond stared.
"You knew?"
Adrian sighed.
"I knew eventually you would."
Lark felt her stomach tighten.
"Why?"
Adrian looked at Raymond.
"Because you built something impossible."
Raymond said nothing.
"I spent twelve years helping you create an empire."
Adrian smiled sadly.
"But everyone saw you as the genius."
"You stole from me."
"Yes."
The honesty was unexpected.
Adrian continued.
"Because I realized something."
"What?"
"You would never stop."
Raymond's eyes hardened.
"So you betrayed me because I succeeded?"
"No."
Adrian looked down.
"Because I believed I deserved part of what you built."
Silence.
The betrayal was not about money.
It was about resentment.
