Chapter 6 - The Woman Who Was Never Temporary

Three months later, Saxton Group was stronger than ever.
The fraud investigation ended.
The stolen funds were recovered.
The company survived.
But something else changed.
Lark was no longer working in the basement.
She had an office.
A real one.
Raymond offered her a permanent position.
She refused.
At first.
"I don't belong here."
Raymond looked at her.
"Why?"
"Because everyone here has a title."
"You have something better."
"What?"
"Value."
That word stopped her.
Because nobody had ever said it like that.
---
One evening, Raymond found her packing her desk.
"Leaving?"
She smiled.
"Promoted employees usually get a bigger office."
"I already gave you one."
"No."
She pointed at the desk.
"I mean leaving the temporary contract behind."
Raymond nodded.
"Good."
She looked surprised.
"Good?"
"Temporary was never accurate."
A pause.
"You were the person who saved my company."
Lark looked at him.
"And what am I now?"
Raymond answered:
May you like
"The person I trust most."
