Chapter 5 - The Woman Who Saw the Man Behind the Monster

The world knew Marcus Vale as a man without mercy.
His enemies feared him.
His employees obeyed him.
His name ended arguments.
But Elena discovered something nobody else knew.
Marcus was exhausted.
One night, she found him sitting alone in the penthouse.
No meetings.
No guards.
Just silence.
"You look terrible."
Marcus glanced at her.
"Thank you."
"That wasn't a compliment."
"I know."
She sat across from him.
"You haven't slept."
"I sleep."
"Three hours doesn't count."
He looked surprised.
"You noticed?"
"Unfortunately."
A small silence passed.
Then Elena asked:
"Do you ever stop being Marcus Vale?"
He frowned.
"What?"
"The man everyone fears."
She looked at him.
"Do you ever get to just be a person?"
Marcus didn't answer.
Because nobody had ever asked him that.
Finally:
"I don't remember."
Elena's expression softened.
"That's sad."
"Most people would say dangerous."
"Most people don't know you."
Marcus looked at her.
"And you do?"
"No."
She smiled slightly.
"But I'm trying."
For the first time in years…
Marcus Vale felt something he thought he had lost.
Peace.
Then his phone rang.
He answered.
His expression changed instantly.
Elena knew.
Something was wrong.
"What happened?"
Marcus listened.
Then stood.
"Lock every entrance."
Elena's heart dropped.
"Marcus?"
He looked at her.
And for the first time, she saw fear in his eyes.
Not for himself.
For her.
May you like
"They found us."
