Chapter 5 - Victor Had to Choose Between His Empire and Lily
Vescari’s men surrounded them.
Victor slowly raised his hands.
“Hannah, stay behind me.”
Vescari laughed.
“Still trying to play hero?”
Victor ignored him.
“You have what you wanted.”
“Not yet.”
Vescari pointed toward Lily.
“I need the child.”
Hannah stepped backward.
“You’re never touching her.”
Vescari smiled.
“You sound exactly like Elena.”
“Good.”
His smile disappeared.
Victor moved slightly.
Vescari’s weapon immediately shifted toward him.
“Don’t.”
Victor stopped.
Vescari looked at Hannah.
“Your mother created an insurance policy that destroyed half my life.”
“You murdered her.”
“She made unfortunate choices.”
Victor’s voice dropped.
“Careful.”
Vescari laughed.
“You’re threatening me while surrounded?”
“No.”
Victor looked toward the security camera.
“I’m distracting you.”
Vescari’s expression changed.
Red lights suddenly flashed.
Steel doors slammed between several of his men.
Marco attacked the nearest guard.
Victor lunged toward Vescari.
Hannah dropped behind the vault counter, shielding Lily.
The confrontation lasted less than a minute.
When Hannah looked up, Victor had Vescari pinned against the wall.
Victor could have killed him.
Everyone knew it.
Vescari knew it too.
“Do it,” Vescari whispered.
Victor stared at him.
Then Hannah spoke.
“Victor.”
He looked back.
Lily was crying in her arms.
Hannah shook her head.
“Don’t make her grow up believing violence was the only way this ended.”
Victor slowly lowered his weapon.
Sirens sounded above them.
Vescari looked confused.
“You called the police?”
Victor smiled faintly.
“Federal agents.”
Hannah stared at him.
“When?”
“Before we came.”
Vescari’s confidence disappeared.
Victor handed Marco the weapon.
“Everything in Elena’s files goes to them.”
Vescari laughed bitterly.
“Including your family?”
Victor nodded.
“Everything.”
“You’ll lose your empire.”
Victor looked at Lily.
“Maybe it’s time.”
Federal agents flooded the corridor.
Vescari was handcuffed.
As they led him away, he looked back at Victor.
“You think this makes you clean?”
Victor answered quietly.
“No.”
That surprised everyone.
Victor continued.
“But it gives her a chance to grow up somewhere cleaner than this.”

“And that’s enough.”
