Chapter 2 - The Secret Behind the Swan

The word “Daddy” echoed through the room long after Isabella stopped speaking.

Vincent Moretti didn’t move.

For eleven months, he had imagined hearing his daughter’s voice again.

He imagined she would say something simple.

“I love you.”

“I miss Mommy.”

Anything.

But he never imagined her first words would be a warning.

A warning about someone he trusted.

Dominic Vesceri.

The man who had stood beside him for twenty years.

The man who helped build his empire.

The man who attended Sofia’s funeral.

The man who told Vincent:

“She would want Isabella protected.”

Now that same man stood pale and silent.

“Bella,” Vincent whispered.

He knelt in front of his daughter.

“Look at me.”

Isabella slowly looked up.

“Are you scared of Dominic?”

The little girl didn’t answer.

But she didn’t need to.

She grabbed her father’s hand.

Then pointed again.

At the music box.

Vincent picked it up carefully.

“What’s inside?”

Isabella’s eyes filled with tears.

She touched the swan.

Then shook her head.

She was afraid.

Claire stepped forward.

“Mr. Moretti…”

Everyone looked at me.

I hesitated.

But after what I had just seen, I couldn’t stay quiet anymore.

“There were things I noticed.”

Vincent stared.

“What things?”

I looked at Dominic.

“He always made Isabella uncomfortable.”

Dominic immediately responded.

“That’s ridiculous.”

I continued.

“Every time he called her full name, she froze.”

Vincent’s expression changed.

“Full name?”

I nodded.

“Isabella Sofia Moretti.”

The room became colder.

Dominic’s face tightened.

“That means nothing.”

But Vincent remembered.

I knew he did.

Because fathers remember everything about their children.

Every reaction.

Every fear.

Every silent moment.

---

The police were not called immediately.

Vincent wanted answers first.

He ordered everyone except family and security to leave.

Dominic remained.

“You’re making a mistake,” Dominic said.

Vincent stood across from him.

“Am I?”

“Yes.”

Dominic looked calm again.

“You’re letting grief control you.”

Vincent walked closer.

“No.”

His voice was quiet.

“I’m listening to my daughter.”

Dominic looked toward Isabella.

“She hasn’t spoken in almost a year.”

Vincent’s eyes hardened.

“But she spoke today.”

Silence.

Then Ellie tugged my sleeve.

“Mommy.”

I looked down.

“What?”

She whispered:

“The lady inside is sad.”

I froze.

“What lady?”

Ellie pointed at the music box.

“The lady who made the song.”

Nobody understood.

Except Isabella.

The little girl stared at Ellie.

Then slowly nodded.

Vincent noticed.

“Ellie…”

He crouched down.

“What did you see?”

The little girl looked at him seriously.

“Your daughter knows.”

She touched the music box.

“She’s been waiting.”

---

That night, Vincent took the music box into his private office.

Security examined it.

Nothing unusual.

No hidden compartment.

No damage.

Nothing.

Until Isabella walked inside.

She touched a small silver feather on the swan.

Then pressed it.

A tiny click sounded.

Everyone froze.

The bottom of the music box opened.

Inside was a hidden compartment.

Vincent’s face lost all color.

Because inside was something Sofia had hidden before she died.

A small envelope.

And a memory card.

Dominic, watching from the doorway, whispered:

“No…”

Vincent slowly turned.

“You knew.”

Dominic said nothing.

And for the first time…

the billionaire realized the truth.

The secret inside the music box wasn’t just about his wife.

May you like

It was about the person who had been standing beside him all along.
