Chapter 3 - The Recording Sofia Left Behind

The room became silent after the memory card was discovered.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone in that room understood one thing.

Sofia Moretti had hidden something.

And she had hidden it before she died.

Vincent stared at the small envelope inside the music box.

His hands were shaking.

For years, Vincent Moretti had built an empire by trusting his instincts.

He knew when someone lied.

He knew when someone was afraid.

He knew when someone wanted something from him.

But he never suspected the man standing beside him.

Dominic Vesceri.

“Open it.”

Vincent’s voice was cold.

Dominic looked at him.

“Vincent…”

“Open it.”

The lawyer slowly stepped forward.

“No.”

The word came quietly.

But everyone heard it.

Vincent’s eyes narrowed.

“No?”

Dominic sighed.

“You don’t know what you’re about to destroy.”

Vincent laughed once.

A bitter sound.

“My daughter stopped speaking because of something connected to this box.”

He stepped closer.

“You don’t get to tell me what I should know.”

The security chief opened the envelope.

Inside was a handwritten letter.

The handwriting belonged to Sofia.

Vincent recognized it instantly.

His wife always crossed her T’s too high.

She always pressed too hard with the pen.

Even after years apart, he could recognize every line.

His hands trembled as he unfolded the paper.

Then he began reading.

---

Vincent,

If you are reading this, something happened that I was afraid of.

I wanted to tell you everything myself.

But I realized the person I feared was closer to you than I ever imagined.

Vincent stopped.

His breathing changed.

Claire watched Dominic.

The lawyer looked away.

That was when everyone knew.

This letter was about him.

Vincent continued.

Dominic knows about the documents.

He knows what happened with the company accounts.

He knows Isabella saw something she was never supposed to see.

The room exploded into whispers.

Vincent lowered the letter.

“What documents?”

Dominic finally spoke.

“This is insane.”

Vincent looked at him.

“You’re the only person here who knows what she means.”

Dominic shook his head.

“Sofia was emotional after the accident.”

“No.”

Vincent’s voice became sharper.

“She was afraid.”

Silence.

Then Ellie walked toward Isabella.

The little girl was still holding the music box.

Ellie looked at her.

“Your mommy wanted you to find this.”

Isabella stared.

Then slowly nodded.

Vincent noticed.

“Bella…”

His voice softened.

“Did you see something?”

The little girl’s eyes filled with tears.

For eleven months, she had carried a memory too heavy for a child.

Now, surrounded by people she trusted, she finally tried to release it.

She pointed at Dominic.

Then at the music box.

Then she whispered:

“Night.”

Everyone froze.

It was only one word.

But it was the first complete word she had spoken in almost a year.

Vincent fell to his knees.

“Bella…”

Tears filled his eyes.

“My baby girl.”

Isabella looked at him.

And for the first time since Sofia died…

she reached for her father.

---

The memory card contained only one video file.

The date was three days before Sofia’s death.

Vincent watched it alone first.

But after ten seconds, he called Claire.

Then security.

Then Isabella’s therapist.

Because what Sofia recorded changed everything.

The screen showed Sofia sitting in her bedroom.

She looked tired.

Scared.

But determined.

“Vincent,” she said.

“If you’re watching this, I’m sorry.”

Vincent covered his mouth.

Sofia continued.

“I discovered someone has been moving money through the company.”

She looked directly into the camera.

“I thought it was an employee.”

A pause.

“Then I found out it was someone we trusted.”

Vincent’s face hardened.

Sofia looked down.

“I didn’t want Isabella involved.”

A tear rolled down her cheek.

“But she saw him.”

The room went silent.

May you like

“She saw Dominic.”
