Chapter 4 - The Mafia Boss Who Saved Me From My Own Fiancé

The next morning, I woke up in Dominic’s private guest room.
For a few seconds, I forgot where I was.
Then everything returned.
Caleb.
Chloe.
The betrayal.
I sat up.
A knock came.
“Come in.”
The door opened.
Dominic entered.
For a man everyone feared, he looked strangely calm.
“You should eat.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“You need strength.”
I looked at him.
“Why do you care?”
He stopped.
That question seemed to hit somewhere deeper.
“Because someone should have protected you.”
I looked away.
Nobody had ever said that to me.
Not even Caleb.
“Why didn’t you tell me everything last night?”
“Because you were already breaking.”
“And now?”
“Now you’re angry.”
I looked at him.
“You prefer angry?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because anger keeps people alive.”
I almost smiled.
Almost.
Then Dominic placed a folder on the table.
“Your father.”
My expression changed.
“What about him?”
“I found something.”
Inside was an old photograph.
My father.
Standing beside Dominic.
I stared.
“You knew my father?”
“Yes.”
The room went silent.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I didn’t know if you were involved.”
My face hardened.
“You thought I was like Caleb?”
“I didn’t know.”
That honesty hurt.
But somehow, I respected it.
“My father trusted you?”
Dominic looked at the photo.
“He saved my life.”
I looked at him.
That was something I never expected.
“My father?”
“Yes.”
“What happened?”
Dominic was quiet.
Then:
“He discovered someone inside his company was stealing from him.”
“Caleb?”
“No.”
He looked at me.
“Someone older.”
“Who?”
Before he could answer, the door opened.
A guard rushed in.
“Dominic.”
“What?”
“Caleb disappeared.”
Dominic stood.
“Where?”
“We found his car abandoned.”
My heart dropped.
“He ran?”
Dominic shook his head.
“No.”
His voice became colder.
“He was taken.”
“By who?”
Dominic looked toward the window.
May you like
“Someone who wants what Caleb failed to get.”
