Chapter 7 - The Woman He Chose To Protect

Six months later…
I stood in front of the same nightclub where everything started.
But this time, I wasn’t running.
I was walking beside Dominic.
People still feared him.
They still whispered his name.
But I knew the man behind the rumors.
The man who gave me safety when my world collapsed.
The man who showed me that power didn’t always mean cruelty.
Dominic looked at me.
“You’re thinking too much.”
I smiled.
“I was remembering the first night we met.”
“The night you broke into my room?”
I laughed.
“I thought it was the bathroom.”
“You have terrible judgment.”
“And yet you kept me alive.”
He smiled slightly.
“Yes.”
I looked at him.
“Why?”
Dominic was quiet for a moment.
Then he answered:
“Because that night, everyone saw a woman who walked into the wrong room.”
He touched my hand gently.
“I saw the only person brave enough to walk into a dangerous room and still tell the truth.”
My eyes softened.
“Dominic.”
“Yes?”
“I lost everything that night.”
He looked at me.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“You lost a lie.”
A pause.
“Then you found the truth.”
I smiled.
For years, I thought my wedding day would be the happiest day of my life.
I was wrong.
Because happiness wasn’t about the person who promised forever.
It was about the person who stayed when everything fell apart.
The man who locked the door that night…
was the same man who opened a new life for me.
And this time…
May you like
I knew exactly where I belonged.
