Chapter 3 - The Secret Behind the Diamond

For twenty years, Adriana Castellano had lived with a secret.

And Ivy Sinclair realized immediately that it was not the kind of secret people wanted revealed.

The mansion was silent as they moved into Adriana’s private study.

A room nobody entered without permission.

The walls were covered with old photographs.

Family portraits.

Business awards.

Memories carefully arranged to show power and success.

But Ivy noticed something strange.

There were almost no pictures of Marco’s father.

Only one.

A young man standing beside Adriana.

And between them, the same diamond ring.

Marco noticed Ivy looking.

“My father, Luca Castellano.”

Ivy nodded.

“He looks happy.”

Marco gave a humorless smile.

“People can look like many things.”

Adriana walked toward the fireplace.

“Luca was not always the man people remember.”

Marco’s expression hardened.

“Mother, stop protecting him.”

“I am not protecting him.”

“Then tell me the truth.”

Adriana looked at her son.

For years, Marco had searched for answers about his father’s final days.

He had been told Luca died because of a business conflict.

A simple explanation.

A convenient explanation.

But Marco had always known something was missing.

“I found the ring years ago,” Adriana said.

Marco looked confused.

“Then why hide it?”

“Because of what was inside.”

Ivy frowned.

“Inside the ring?”

Adriana shook her head.

“No.”

She pointed toward the diamond.

“Your grandfather had a habit. He never trusted paper. He trusted things people overlooked.”

Marco stepped closer.

“What does that mean?”

Adriana removed a small magnifying glass from her desk drawer.

She carefully examined the ring.

Then she pressed a tiny mark near the diamond.

A hidden compartment opened.

Inside was a small piece of folded paper.

Ivy stared.

Marco looked stunned.

“What is that?”

Adriana unfolded it.

Her hands trembled.

“A name.”

She placed the paper on the desk.

Marco read it.

Then his face changed.

Because the name written there was impossible.

Daniel Sinclair.

Ivy froze.

Her heart stopped.

“My father?”

Adriana looked at her.

“Yes.”

The room became silent.

“That’s impossible,” Ivy whispered.

“My father never knew your family.”

Adriana studied her carefully.

“You believe that?”

Ivy didn't answer.

Because suddenly memories appeared.

Her father refusing to talk about New York.

Her grandmother becoming uncomfortable whenever the Castellano name appeared on television.

The strange way Opal always told her:

“Some families survive by forgetting.”

Marco looked between them.

“You knew her family?”

Adriana sighed.

“Not only knew.”

She looked at Ivy.

“Your grandfather and mine were partners.”

Ivy shook her head.

“My grandfather owned a small dry-cleaning shop.”

“Yes.”

“And your family runs an empire.”

Adriana nodded.

“Because the empire started somewhere.”

She walked toward the window.

“Before Castellano Holdings existed, Luca Castellano and Daniel Sinclair built a business together.”

Marco frowned.

“Then why have I never heard of him?”

“Because someone destroyed the partnership.”

“Who?”

Adriana didn't answer immediately.

That scared Marco more than anything.

“Your uncle.”

Marco went still.

“My uncle is dead.”

“Death doesn't erase what someone did.”

Ivy looked at the ring.

“So my family was connected to yours?”

“Yes.”

“Then why did my father struggle his whole life?”

Adriana’s eyes softened.

“Because someone made sure he lost everything.”

The words hit harder than Ivy expected.

Her father wasn't just unlucky.

Her family wasn't just poor.

Someone had taken their future.

Marco noticed the pain on her face.

“Ivy…”

She looked at him.

“My father spent his entire life believing he failed us.”

Her voice shook.

“He thought he wasn't good enough.”

Marco lowered his eyes.

For the first time, the powerful heir of the Castellano family looked guilty.

Because he knew something Ivy didn't.

There was another secret.

One his mother hadn't revealed yet.

---

Later that night, Marco found Ivy outside the mansion.

She stood near the garden, staring at the city lights.

“You should leave,” he said.

She turned.

“Because I know too much?”

“Yes.”

Ivy laughed quietly.

“That sounds like a threat.”

“It’s a warning.”

“From a man whose family hides secrets inside diamonds?”

Marco looked away.

“I’m trying to protect you.”

“Why?”

He hesitated.

“Because everyone who gets close to this family gets hurt.”

Ivy studied him.

“Are you warning me about your family?”

“No.”

“Then who?”

Marco looked back at the mansion.

May you like

“The person who put that ring there.”
