Chapter 4 - The Betrayal Inside the Family

For ten years, Damian believed his father’s death was natural.

A heart attack.

A tragic accident.

A painful memory.

But the documents told another story.

Someone had been moving money through hidden accounts.

Someone had been using Calloway companies for illegal shipments.

And someone had covered it all up.

Damian stared at the papers.

“My father knew.”

Maya shook her head.

“Maybe he was trying to stop it.”

Damian looked at her.

“You believe that?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because if he was the kind of man who wanted this, he wouldn’t have hidden the evidence.”

Damian studied her.

“You barely know my family.”

“No.”

Maya looked at the papers.

“But I know people.”

She paused.

“And people who are guilty usually destroy evidence.”

A quiet moment passed.

Damian realized something.

Maya wasn’t just brave.

She was intelligent.

That was why someone wanted her silent.

---

The next morning, Damian called his family together.

The dining room had never felt colder.

Adrian arrived first.

Smiling.

“Brother.”

Damian didn’t respond.

Then Vincent Hale entered.

Several other relatives followed.

Nobody knew why Damian had called them.

Until he placed the documents on the table.

The smiles disappeared.

Adrian looked at the papers.

Then looked at Damian.

“What is this?”

“You tell me.”

Silence.

Adrian laughed.

“You’re accusing me?”

“I’m asking questions.”

“That’s worse.”

Damian leaned back.

“Where were you two nights ago?”

Adrian’s expression changed.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

The room became tense.

Finally, Adrian smiled.

“You think I’m behind this because of a housekeeper?”

Maya stood near the door.

Damian looked at him.

“No.”

He paused.

“I think you’re behind this because you made one mistake.”

Adrian narrowed his eyes.

“What mistake?”

“You underestimated a child.”

Everyone looked confused.

Damian continued.

“Lily saw you.”

Adrian’s face changed.

Only for a second.

But Damian noticed.

And that was enough.

---

That night, someone tried to leave the estate.

Security stopped them.

It was Adrian’s assistant.

Inside his car were copies of documents.

Phone records.

Payments.

Proof.

Damian finally had the answer.

But he still needed one thing.

The truth.

May you like

From Adrian himself.
