Chapter 7 - The Family He Never Expected

One year later, the Calloway estate felt different.

The mansion was still large.

Still beautiful.

Still overlooking the Atlantic.

But it no longer felt empty.

The halls carried laughter.

The dining room had noise.

The library had drawings on the walls.

And Damian Calloway, once known as the coldest man in Newport, was now known for something else.

Being a father.

---

One morning, Damian sat at breakfast while Lily placed a plate in front of him.

“You forgot breakfast again.”

Damian looked at her.

“I did not.”

“You did.”

Maya laughed from across the table.

Some things never changed.

Damian looked at Lily.

“You know, most people are afraid to tell me what to do.”

Lily smiled.

“I’m not.”

“I noticed.”

She leaned closer.

“Because you’re my family.”

The words were simple.

But they meant everything.

---

Years earlier, Damian believed power was the only thing that protected people.

Money.

Influence.

Fear.

He was wrong.

The night a little girl ran into his meeting and begged him to save her mother, Damian thought he was rescuing Lily’s family.

But he was wrong again.

She was rescuing his.

She showed him the truth hidden inside his own home.

She showed him who he could become.

And she gave the most feared man in Newport something no fortune could buy.

May you like

A reason to come home.
